PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Sheridan Middle School Athletics
2006-07
At Sheridan Middle School, we recognize the importance of the integration of middle school athletics in the lives of our students-athletes, and we therefore strive for the best academic and athletic climate to foster their social, emotional, and academic growth. With the 2006-2007 seasons, it is therefore expected that the coach/sponsor will complete the following tasks in order to receive a stipend for the activity. This document must be signed off by the supervising athletic director and the principal before being submitted to payroll. The payroll office will pay coaching stipends on the following months for the 2006-07 school year—December, April, and July.
1. Attend and meet with athletic director prior to start of season. At this meeting the coach should provide the planned practice schedule, planned scrimmages, and provide evidence of current CPR/First Aid certification.
2. Teams will be formed by ability and will be “A” and “B” squads.
3. In order to promote continuity between levels and teams, all coaches will attend all practices and games for all levels. Common philosophy (i.e. plays, vocabulary, techniques) shall be employed throughout. Exceptions for attendance expectations include study halls (below).
4. At least one weekend/holiday tournament will be scheduled each season. The school will pay all transportation and entry fees. (football may be an exception to the tournament rule).
5. Submit player roster to athletic director for eligibility check and roster submission to schools that we will compete against. It is also expected that the coach/sponsor will submit roster changes in a timely way.

10. Complete beginning and end of year inventory of equipment and uniforms.
11. Meet with athletic director for end of year evaluation and discussion regarding budget requests, future games, etc.
12. Weekly communication with player’s teachers about eligibility, behavior, academic effort will be the duty of the coach. Work in conjunction with athletic director to monitor payments of athletic fees and academic eligibility.
13. Study halls will be scheduled as needed to enforce academic expectations of the school, and should be scheduled during other level’s practice time, and should be supervised by the appropriate coach.
14. There should be a minimum of nine practices held prior to the first game of the season. After the first game, games or practices should be held on each day that school is held except Friday. Exceptions should be approved by the athletic director and/or principal.
